Sliding in Sturgis
By Bobby Lewis

Hayden Gillim adjusted to the slick track conditions to win five classes on the night at Round 5 of the KY Dirt Track Series in Sturgis, KY. He nailed the hole-shot in the 85cc short track and never bobbled holding Jake Lewis to second. Shannon Wix was a close third while Curtis Richard worked his way into fourth from row two past Frankie Lee Gillim. Ethan Gillim held onto sixth over Hayden Granda, Nick McFadden, Dillon Atkins, Blake Tabor, Preston Owens and Molly Terry.

Richard went to the front on the TT and led for three laps before Hayden pulled a move to take the lead going into the infield. Hayden rode off for the win over Richard while Frankie Lee held off Lewis for third. Tabor moved up to fill the top five over Atkins, Ethan, McFadden, Granda and Wix.

After easily topping the 160cc four stroke Short Track Hayden went to work on the 200cc Amateur classes. Wix looked for a way around but came up a little short to Hayden on the Short Track. Nikki Spore topped the battle for third by holding off Lewis, Richard, Frankie Lee and Nathaniel Vowell.

Hayden pulled a gap en-route to the TT win leaving Lewis to hold off Frankie Lee for second.

Hayden was back in the Pro-Am ranks and carded a pair of seconds to class winner Kyle Snyder. Snyder built up safe margins to win both events. Richard was a safe third with Frankie Lee, Lewis, Wix, Vowell and Spore running in formation.

Lewis would ride to a win in the 160 four stroke TT and sweep the 65cc classes. Jeremy Anderson put a wheel under John Olmstead holding off Jeb Polic and Koji Furuhashi for second.

Aaron Ladd, Jason Goodwin and Bill Gruwell hit turn one three abreast. Ladd led off of turn two with Goodwin chasing and the positions were set.

Curt Comer carded wins in the Senior classes using a pair of bikes in the process. Bill Zentmyer put the pressure on early until slight contact moved him to fourth. Corner stayed on the groove to hold off Randy Blackwell and Polic for the win.

Blackwell would return to top the Vintage mains.
