King for a Day
By Bobby Lewis

Over 350 riders were on tap at the Illinois State Fairgrounds today for the third round of races on the indoor short track and TT. Aaron King took the lion's share of purse money back home to Iowa as he recorded wins in five classes.

King started his night off by hole-shotting the 250cc Pro short track and went on to win by a safe margin over Brock Schwarzenbacher. Shane Vance held off Justin Hanna for third with Clint Collier, Stevie Nace, Jordan Jenkle and Tyler Porter filing in behind.

King was away first on the TT also and cruised to the win. Porter improved his ride to finish second in front of Hanna, Nace and Schwarzenbacher.

King doubled up in the Mad Dog division by taking a light-to-flag run en route to the win on the short track. Nace kept him honest in second over Schwarzenbacher while Kurt Marmor nipped Jesse Atkins for fourth. King's TT win came a little tougher as he made a last lap pass on both Schwarzenbacher and Nace to sweep the class.

The crowning moment of King's night would come in the Open Pro short track. The first attempt to start resulted in Shane Vance, Rob Pearson and Henry Wiles being sent to the penalty row. On the seventh restart King led out of turn two, which he had done on every start, and started to break away. King never bobbled and went on to win by half a straight over Darren and Nichole Cheza who had a comfortable margin over a war for fourth. Rod Hartzel held firm despite a race long battle from Nick Cummings. Aaron Ladd was next in line after Vance, Cody Bowland, Bill Gruwell, Pearson, Wiles and Dustin Crow.

Carter was the master of the Open Pro and Pro-Am TT's. Carter hole-shot both main events and rode a smooth line to win in each with King a close second each time. Ladd would hold off Cheza and Kyle Meiers for third In the Pro ranks while Justin Hanna slid past Nace for third in the Pro-Am Class. Tyler Porter would wind up fifth over Cheza, Dan Reichert and Schwarzenbacher.

Pearson would come back to win the Open Pro-Am short track. He led Wiles, Ladd and Bowland to the end of a lap and increased his lead to take an easy win. Wiles held on for second by a bike length over Ladd while Cummings and King shuffled Bowland back to sixth.

Hartzel would once again dominate the Senior class with a romp over Super Senior winner Dennis Porter and Ron Anderson but had his Vet class streak broken by Kevin Snyder who put in solid rides to win both the short track and TT. Bill Gruwell chased them home for third over Gene Yopp, Porter, Dan Reichert and Chuck Galman.

Patrick Ferrell used good shots off the line to sweep the 250 and Open Amateur short tracks.

Chaz Landers held off Kevin Vance at the stripe in the 250 class while Joel Johnson, Allen Hammond and Terry Reid followed.

Will Emmendoffer rode into second in the Open class while Chance McCormick led Chris McDewitt, Landers and Trevor Augenstien to the flag.

Ferrell held off McDewitt and the rest of the field in the 450 Amateur ranks but it was for second as winner Lance Kent took the win.

The youth divisions were once again full and Mason Krog pulled through to take the 50cc shaft TT win. Nick McFadden held off Travis Zapfe at the line for second with Jacob Morris, Luke Baird and Stephen Lannom trailing. Continued Page 2
