Heiden Haulin’ in Smithland
By Bobby Lewis

Illinois rider Jonathan Heiden rolled into Smithland, KY tonight ready to race and swept every class entered to take the big trophies home. After a brief thunderstorm swept through Steve Nace brought the track back and produced an extremely tacky surface that allowed riders to ride high or low.

Heiden’s first win of the night came in the 85cc short track. He led the field into turn one with Jake Lewis and Hayden Gillim on his heels. Heiden checked out and increased his lead every lap to take the win. Lewis held second until the halfway mark when Gillim moved to the inside to take the spot. They would finish in order as Frankie Lee Gillim closed the gap to finish a close fourth. Cody Brown will fill the top five over Nikki Spore, Ethan Gillim and Tommy Garrett.

The 85cc TT main was almost an instant replay of the short track with Heiden once again going to the front. He ran eight perfect laps and took the win after a tight battle with Hayden. Frankie Lee came through traffic to find third. Spore led the freight train consisting of Brown, Ethan and Lewis to the line for fourth.

Heiden’s final class was the 200cc Pro-Am where he led flag-to-flag to finish the perfect night. Hayden and Frankie Lee would chase him home.

Lewis and Hayden would split wins in the 65cc class. Lewis nailed the hole shot in the short track and disappeared to take the win. Hayden was a safe second over Frankie Lee in third. Ethan would hold off Levi Mayer, Nick Thomason and Brett Smith for fourth.

Hayden gated perfectly in the TT final and held off a race-long challenge from Lewis to take a close win. Frankie Lee was again third over Ethan, Thomason and Mayer.

Hayden would top the 200cc Amateur ranks in both the short track and TT as would Lewis in the 50cc Chain class. Nick McFadden was perfect in the 50cc Shaft class and took large wins in both finals. Luke Baird was the runner-up both times over Dylan Douglas.

Stevie Nace and Dakota Simmons each shared wins in the Mad Dog division. Nace’s win came on the oval with Simmons taking the TT. Simmons would also top the 250cc Amateurs on the TT.

Jordan Jenkle kept the tight line in the short track to card the win in the class over Tony Graham and Simmons. Graham was once again second in the Open Amateur final over double class winner Tyler Porter.

Dallas Mayer outclassed the 40+ field with a convincing win. Dennis Porter held his line while Gene Yopp looked for a pass for second. Yopp’s charge found him sliding down and ending up in fifth. Porter held on to second over David Brown and Ed Clark.

Porter and Clark would return in the 50+ main to run first and second. Yopp looked for the pass again in the Stock XR main but Jessie Hodge never swayed and took the win over Yopp, April Ladd and Colby Chandler.

Aaron Ladd held off Jason Goodwin to win the Pro-Am final after a race long battle. Steve Atwell and Dean Faulkner carded wins in the Vintage mains.
