Blackwell's Bad on the Half-Mile

BY: Bobby Lewis

Granite City, IL June 16

Randy Blackwell fared well tonight as he took two class wins on the half-mile. The first of three races to crown the South Central champs was run on the super past half-mile. Despite an extremely narrow and slick groove several races were won by inches.  Blackwell was third into turn one in the senior class but two laps later was camped out on leader, Rod Hartzel's fender. Hartzel wouldn't budge but Blackwell got the drive he needed off of turn four and took the leads with two laps to go. Blackwell stayed on the groove to take the close win over Hartzel and Dallas Mayer. Robert England moved into fourth over Marty Allison and Douglas Daugherty.  Mike Anderson led a fast pack of super seniors for the first half of the final but Blackwell was not to be denied as he used the same move as he had earlier to take the lead and eventual win.  Anderson stayed in the hunt to finish second over Steve England and Bill Snyder.  Brock Schwarzenbacher and Jon Goodwin put in a battle for the groove in the open-pro class with Schwarzenbacher at the front. Goodwin put the pressure on but couldn't budge the leader and settled for a close second over Justin Hanna, Cory Texter, and Kyle Snyder. Schwarzenbacher was looking good in his new leathers and determined to keep them clean as he went to the front of the pro-sport main also.  Eight laps later he remained perfect on the night while Texter held off Goodwin for second with Hanna and Coty Bowland next in order.  Jeff Carver and Brandon Robinson shadowed each other in the 250 mod class with Robinson grabbing the win. The 450 mod class was a rematch with Carver in the lead until Robinson slipped the groove and took a nasty highside in turn three.  Carver rode on to an uncontested win over Colby Chandler and Nathaniel Vowell.  Carver also topped the 250 DTX main but it was a close one as Shayna Texter's bid for the came up a couple of inches short. Jacob Cunningham rode to third over Adam Cobb.  Shayna would return to dominate the 500 DTX and 250 4-stroke classes.  Nick McFadden chased down early leader Jake Lewis in the 65cc mod class and took over the lead until the halfway point. The two riders exchanged the lead until McFadden took over on the final lap and kept it pinned to take the close win.  Logan Demaa grabbed third from Thomas Goodnick. Demaa returned in the DTX class to take a convincing win. Lewis and Austin Medrano traded wins in the 85cc classes with the closest on in the DTX final. Medrano put in a smooth ride to take the win over Lewis with Cunningham moving into third past Evan Fields, Nick McFadden and Daniel Bromley.

Rossetto on Rails at the TT

By: Bobby Lewis

Granite City, IL  June 16

Alex Rossoto had the steady throttle hand today as he took two class wins on the TT. Throttle control was a must on the dry slick technical course and Rosetto served notice as he jumped into the lead and rode off for the win over Mike Dunaway and Shane Pettis in the Vet 30+ class. The 450-Mod class promised to be a showdown between Rossetto and Jeff Carver. Rossetto grabbed the lead into the infield and stayed smooth, never getting a wheel out of line and inched away to a comfortable win. Carver sat alone in second with Colby Chandler closing in third over Norman Widman, Brandon Robinson and Nathaniel Vowell. Carver came back strong by topping the 250 2-stroke main then leading Adam Cobb home in the 250 DTX final. Jacob Cunningham slid to third in the DTX division past Norman Widman and Shayne Texter. Chandler got the much needed holeshot in the 250 Mod 4-stroke main and held Cobb to another runner-up spot over Shayne and Levi Mayer. Jake Lewis took three class wins on the day with convincing flag to flag runs in the 65cc Mod and 85cc DTX classes. Lewis slid past the infield turn in the 85 Mod final and found himself at the back of the field with Daniel Bromley leading the way. Lewis picked off a rider per lap and slipped underneath Bromley in turn one to take the lead on the white flap lap. Lewis held on to take the win with Bromley a close second over Austin Medrano, Evan Fields and Logan Demaa. Michael Heiden looked looked right at home as he dominated the 125 Mod class over Nikki Spore, Jacob Cunningham and Hayden Granda. Brock Schwarzenbacher and Justin Hanna traded wins in the Open Pro and Pro Sport finals taking a tight points battle to the final short track.

Texters Dominate the Short Track

By: Bobby Lewis

Granite City, IL  June 16

Cory and Shayna Texter dominated the final race on the short track tonight at the South Central Amateur Nationals. They combined for five class wins on the slick groove quarter mile with Shayne winning three of them. She nailed the start of the 250 DTX class and then never budged as the four rider pack was never more than a couple of lengths apart. Jeff Carver tried to stick a wheel in but could not make a pass stick and settled for second over Adam Cobb and Jacob Cunningham. Shayna then doubled up by scoring the wins in the 500 DTX and 250 4-stroke finals. Cory Texter had a tough road ahead to match his sister but did just that as he was getting a drive off the corners that no one could match. The Open Pro class was all his with Brian Vincent trying to reel him in from second while Brock Schwarzenbacher and Justin Hanna looked for a way past. The flag flew with Texter a safe winner over Vincent, Schwarzenbacher, Hanna and Billy Gruwell. Cory ended a perfect night by cleaning house in the Pro-Sport main with a flag to flag run over Hanna, Coty Bowland, Schwarzenbacher and Gruwell. Cunningham pulled out the stops in the 125cc final and chased down early leader Michael Heiden to take the lead with three laps left. Heiden tried to fight back but came up short as Cunningham's win took him to the class championship. Cunningham claimed his second class in the 85cc DTX race. Austin Medrano led the way but slipped just enough to let Cunningham by for the win with Jake Lewis third over Daniel Bromley and Evan Fields. This track saw the Vintage bikes picking up steam and the man to beat was Adam Iams as he took both the heat and main. Jake and Daniel Wilkinson battled with each other for second with Matt Boyd rounding out the field.
