Kentucky Dirt Track Series Ladd, Gillims Rock at Rockport The KY dirt track series cranked back up after the Amateur National break and visited a new venue in Rockport, IN. The 1/8 mile oval allowed for multiple line choices and provided excellent racing despite an extremely rough turn two.
Aaron Ladd had the circuit dialed as he topped both the Open Pro and Pro-Am classes. Ladd hole-shot the Pro final but had Jeremy Anderson breathing down his back. Anderson finally got a wheel underneath but couldn’t make it stick and Ladd held on for the close win. Dean Faulkner got the nod for third after a race long battle with Senior winner John Clark.
Ladd carded another good start in the Pro-Am class with Justin Hanna looking for a mistake. Jason Goodwin came from mid pack to close on the leaders but a blown engine would find him sidelined at the halfway mark. Anderson closed in to make it a three rider run to the flag but Ladd held firm to take another win over Hanna and Anderson. Coty Bowland led the freight train for fourth over Bill Gruwell, Mad Dog winner Stevie Nace, Colby Chandler and Kyle Kelly.

Hanna would return to dominate the Open Amateur main while Chandler did likewise to the 250’s. Hayden Gillim made his comeback ride a good one as he recorded two wins on the night. His was a welcome return as he had been sidelined by a severe injury since April. He was first to cross the stripe in the 200cc Pro-Am main as the pack ran three abreast. He held off Frankie Lee Gillim and Michael Heiden by a length with Jonathan Heiden, Jake Lewis and Ethan Gillim in close order. Jake Lewis was first into turn one in the 85cc class but it was Hayden leading into turn three. Lewis worked the low line with Gillim the top and they brought it to the wire with Hayden by a wheel. Ethan put in a solid ride for third over Frankie Lee, Evan Fields, Brett Neville and 50 Chain winner Nick McFadden. Frankie Lee nailed the hole-shot in the 200cc Amateur main and never bobbled holding Lewis and Hayden Gillim off to card the win. Destiny Ham turned the tables on heat race winner Grant Butts to win the final with Taylor Finnell topping Jarrett Naas and Tyler Chandler for third. Ron Anderson was smooth as he recorded the win in the 50+ class over Mike Anderson. John Glass worked his way to third past Clyde Modlin. |
