Hot Rod Hits Greenville
By Bobby Lewis

Rod Hartzel was the dominant rider in the opening round of the Ky. Indoor series tonight at Greenville. Hartzel used a string of potent hole-shots en-route to wins in three classes.

He took control of the Senior class and left the pack to battle for second. Ed Clark claimed the spot by edging John Lewis at the finish. Gene Yopp led the freight train to fourth over Ron Anderson, Dennis Porter, Skeeter Williams, Thomas Terry and Senior TT winner John Gilligan.

Porter came back to win the Super Seniors over Clark, Terry Goodwin, Anderson, Charlie Southgate and Clyde Modlin.

The Vet class was also owned by Hartzel as he took control of the start and held off the pressure from Bill Gruwell to earn the win. Yopp beat out Dean Jett for the third spot while Steve Atwell filled out the top five.

Hartzel's best ride of the night would come next in the 12 rider Open Pro class main. As the field hit turn three, four abreast, Hartzel took the point off of turn four. He would never bobble and rode to a three bike-length lead over Open Pro TT winner Aaron Ladd. Brian Thomas held off Gruwell and Josh Toungett for third. Jeff Landrum came through the pack to finish next over Jason Goodwin, Coty Bowland, Jon Goodwin, Kyle Naliborski and Southgate.

Landrum would romp on the Mad Dog short track riding to the win over TT winner Stevie Nace. Southgate was in the hunt for third over David King and Jim Fungaroli.

April Ladd would double up by topping Kelly Bell in the Women's Division while David King and Austin Zentmyer chased her in the Stock XR100 short track.

Aaron Ladd led the 13 rider Pro-Am main with Toungett on his rear wheel. Toungett got the break he needed as they hit lapped traffic and took the lead holding it to the flag for a close win over Ladd. Justin Hanna put in a good ride for third holding off Jon Goodwin, Landrum and Andy Goodwin at the line.

Hanna also scored three wins on the night with convincing rides in the 250cc Pro short track and TT and the Open Pro-Am TT.

Michael Stalvey swept both the 250cc and Open Amateur divisions with hole-shots and runaway wins. John Lampkin held off Kevin Walters for the second spot on the 250's while Christopher McDevitt earned the place in the Open class over Dean Jett, Trevor Augenstein and Walters.

John Lewis led wire-to-wire en-route to the Vintage win with Porter keeping him honest at a close second. Steve Atwell held off Gilligan, Williams, Fungaroli and Stalvey for third.

Jeff Carver won five out of six classes entered and was perfect on the TT. Carver went to the front of the 200cc classes and left Frankie Lee Gillim to fend off Hayden Gillim and Patrick Pyle for second.

Carver then slipped under early leader Hayden to claim the 85 TT win. Frankie Lee was a safe third over Nathaniel Vowell, Ian Keith and Neal Dalton.

Carver scored his other wins in the 200cc Pro-Am short track and held off Hayden to claim the 85cc short track. Frankie Lee was once again third in the class over Jake Lewis, Keith, Colby Chandler and Vowell.

Hayden would strike back by taking the 200 Amateur short track win and both 65cc classes. He took a comfortable lead to the win over Ian Keith in the short track while Lewis worked into third from the penalty row over Blake Tabor, Josh Grief and Neal Dalton. Hayden used a good move off the final corner to pass leader Lewis for the win. Dalton held off Keith and Tabor for third.

Jacob Morris used a last turn move around a lapped rider to nip Nick McFadden by inches in taking the Shaft drive short track final. Travis Zapfe closed for third over Luke Baird and Trent Wilcox.

McFadden made good on hole-shots to score the 50cc Shaft TT over Morris and Bailey Edsall on the short track and the 50cc Shaft TT over Morris. Baird made a late race move to third over Zapfe and Wilcox.

Edsall scored a convincing win in the 50cc chain TT to round out the winners.
