Toungett Times Two
By Bobby Lewis

The first of eighteen rounds of indoor dirt tracks rolled into Du Quoin tonight and brought a huge rider turnout with it. Promoter Steve Nace had a perfectly groomed track surface that was blistering fast.

The Open Pro division ran three heats to whittle the field down to twelve riders with heat wins going to Josh Toungett, Brad Furlong and Kevin Snyder. The first start resulted in a multi-rider pileup that ended the race for Jon Goodwin and Aaron Ladd.

On the next try Toungett led the field and pulled a small gap en route to the win. Furlong held onto second while Snyder and Jason Goodwin argued over third. On the final lap both riders bit the dirt leaving Furlong to finish second over Billy Gruwell, Tadahiro Fukaya and Chris Boone. Dean Faulkner led the freight train for sixth over Shane Vance, Cody Bowland, Kyle Meiers and Kyle Naliborski.

Toungett continued to spell trouble for the other riders as he jumped out in front of the 450 class also and ran another perfect race taking the win. Shane Vance held back Clint collier and Brian Hopper for the runner-up spot.

Snyder gathered it up and took a wire to wire win in the 505 Pro class after holding off repeated challenges from Ladd and Furlong on the short track.

Furlong returned the favor by topping the TT charts.

Justin Hanna mastered the TT and then backed it up with a win in the Open Amateur short track. Kevin Vance chased him hard but came up a little short while Chaz Landers nipped Chas Rice at the line for third. Colby Chandler filled in the top five over Jeb Polic, Wade Scott and Koji Juruhashi.

Brock Schwarzenbacher was extremely smooth and took the wins in the 250, 450 and Open Pro-Am divisions.

Jeff Carver was unbeaten in the 200cc ranks as he scored wins in both short tracks and TT's. Carver also notched a come from behind win in the 85cc short track but could not quite catch Hayden Gillim in the TT.

Gillim would also sweep the 65cc class.

Jacob Morris dominated the 50cc chain class, as did Michael Johnson in the 160cc 4-stroke division.

Jeremy Anderson scored wins in the 70 Singles and Heavy Vintage classes holding off Dallas Mayer each time. Steve England held on for third over Super Senior winner Ron Anderson, Marty Allison, Tony Brennan and Randy Blackwell.

Mayer came back strong to work past early leader Kelly Klynstra on his way to sweeping the Senior class.
