Porter Carries the Day
By Bobby Lewis

Tyler Porter started the Kentucky Outdoor Dirttrack Series on the right note by taking class wins in both the Short Track and TT.

Bill Gruwell led the Open Amateur short track final down the back straight with Porter putting the pressure on from the second place slot. Gruwell held the point for two more laps until slipping up high, allowing Porter to slip underneath. Porter took advantage and opened up a comfortable lead en route to the win. Gruwell was able to hold on to second over a fast-closing Dakota Simmons and Jordan Jenkle.

Porter had a little easier time in the TT as he was unheaded for eight laps and cruised to the win over Simmons, Jenkle and Justin Jenkle.

Gruwell made a comeback in the Vet class with a romp over the field. Dean Faulkner kept him in sight to finish second while Steve Atwell followed in third.

Dennis Porter led the Senior main event at the flash of the light but had his hands full with Gene Yopp who sat in second. Yopp stuck a wheel in at every corner and it finally stuck on the white-flag lap. They ran into turn three side-by-side and Dennis low-sided while Yopp took the win. Dave Brown inherited second.

Tyler Whitecotten ran an error-free 65cc TT main and held off Frankie Lee Gillim to card the win. Ethan Gillim worked his way into third over Hayden Gillim, Jake Lewis and Nathaniel Vowell. Whitecotten and Frankie Lee took turns leading the short track, but Hayden used an excellent low line off turn four to take the win. Frankie Lee was in second at the stripe, over Whitecotten, Ethan and Lewis.

Patrick Pyle led a three-rider battle for the lead in the 200cc Pro-Am short track. The other two were Hayden and Erhardt Heisner. Pyle only slipped a wheel but that was all Hayden needed to slip underneath and take the victory. Pyle held off Heisner for second while Whitecotten and Heiden filled out the top five.

Hayden would also claim the 200cc Amateur win with a wire-to-wire ride over Frankie Lee, Matt Patterson and Justin Jenkle.

The 200cc Pro-Am TT started with heat race winner Tommy Fox on the penalty line. Hayden was first away over Pyle, Mike Fox, Frankie Lee and Heisner. Tommy was immediately on the move, passing three riders going into the infield and picking off one more per lap. With one lap to go he passed Hayden and wheelied to the win. Hayden took a safe second over Frankie Lee, Fox, Pyle and Whitecotten.
