Ladd, Robinson Super On The Short Track

Paducah, KY
April 21
One hundred
twenty riders from thirteen states converged on Paducah,
KY's PIR raceway for the Southeast Amateur
National Short Track today. After two straight days of rain promoter Steve
Nace and his crew did an admirable job of producing an
extremely racy track. Aaron Ladd and Brock Schwarzenbacher squared off in the
big bike divisions and created quite a show. Ladd won out for a close win in
the Pro-Sport class but it was Schwarzenbacher leading the first lap of the
Open Pro main. Ladd and Justin Hanna were struck on the groove trying to slip a
wheel underneath but Schwarzenbacher would not budge. With two laps left Ladd
put a gutsy inside move on the leader and banged into the lead. Schwarzenbacher
tried to return the favor on the final lap but came up a bikelength short as
Ladd took the win. Jeremy Anderson started from the back row and moved steadily
through the pack and his cushion riding line moved him past Hanna to take third
at the flag by inches. Jason Goodwin would fill in the top five while John
Faulkner held off Chase Sconyers, Kyle Meiers and Chris Boone for sixth. Cody Reifsnider, Kevin Snyder and
Dean Faulkner filled out the twelve rider field. Jeff Carver and Brandon
Robinson broke out of the 450cc Mod pack and set-up a last lap dash for the
flag. Carver led the way on the groove while Robinson ran high into turn three
and squared off the corner to get a run on Carver that resulted in a photo
finish. The win was awarded to Robinson over Carver whild Derek Weber moved to
thid over Colby Chandler and D. J. Slusser,
Payton Sassaman led a train of riders for sixth consisting of Dakota Simmons,
Nathaniel Vowell, Jacob White, Jed Dunham and Kenny Castle. Robinson would top
the 250cc two stroke rematch over Carver also. Carver hit paydirt in the 250cc
DTX division as he rebounded from a poor heat race to claim the main event win
over Sassaman, Steve Vanderkuur, Frankie Lee Gillim, Adam Cobb and Levi Mayer.
Chandler would lead the first lap of the 250cc mod 4-stroke class but Simmons
rode the top of the narrow groove to ride around the outside and go onto a
convincing win Vanderkuur and Corton Vandezande would move past also to leave
Chandler to fend off Cobb and Sassaman for fourth. Frankie Lee Gillim slid past
early leader Michael Heiden to ride away for the 125cc win. Heiden held off
repeated charges from Zach Oliffe, Jacob Cunningham and Nikki Spore for second.
Hayden Gillim doubled up in the 85cc ranks by late race passes to top both the
7-11 and 9-13 age groups. He waited for a mistake from Cunningham to take the
lead in the 9-13 group and put a last lap move on Jake Lewis to top the 7-11
field. Ethan Gillim was a solid third over Austin Conant, Nick McFadden, Evan
Fields, Ryan Rutland and Logan Demaa.
